Anne Bean, Unidentified Fluid Outcome begins, Centre For Remote Possibilities, Matt’s Gallery, Chinese New Year, 19 February 2015, 5pm
Unidentified Fluid Outcome begins is a performance by Anne Bean with fortune cookies, saké and jasmine tea that will take place in the Centre for Remote Possibilities at Matt’s Gallery. This event, which will be broadcast live online via our homepage, will launch a long-term project in association with Matt’s Gallery. There are approximately 80 towns in England with a population of 30 to 45 thousand people, big enough to explore but small enough to get to know reasonably well, over a year.
For Unidentified Fluid Outcome begins the name of each of these towns will be placed in each of the 80 fortune cookies, along with the usual fortunes. Robin Klassnik’s cookie, which he will randomly pick, will have the name of the town, which Anne Bean will leave for immediately and open up a space called Moments of Consciousness and… This space will be one where ‘meeting-points’ with strangers will occur and start to manifest in long-term collaborations. These collaborations will be shown in association with Matts Gallery in late 2016.
Artists’ News
Graham Fagen, Interview: Solo Presentation at Venice Biennale 2015, published in the Scotsman, 6 January 2015
As Graham Fagen prepares to represent Scotland at the Venice Biennale, he talks to Moira Jeffrey about his efforts to challenge social, cultural and political conventions.
If Fagen is a sculptor, his subject is not just physical form but how we ourselves are formed. “It is about cultural formers, cultural assimilations, cultural clashes and cultural learning,” he says. “For me all of these things seem to be so much about what Venice is about, even the idea of hosting international festivals. For centuries it has been a hub because of trade, but trade brings culture, ideas, concepts and other things.”
Graham Fagen’s solo presentation for Scotland + Venice 2015 is at the Palazzo Fontana from 9 May until 22 November.
